Electric Rates Residential
Residential rates are available for individually metered residences, condominiums, mobile homes and apartments that provide independent and permanent facilities complete for living, sleeping, eating, cooking and sanitation. Separately metered uses at a residence will be served under the general service schedule.A summary of the major residential rate schedules is shown below. Schedule RS (SC)
- Category 1 is available to any residence.
- Category 2, a lower rate, is available to residences where electric water heating, meeting certain specifications, is used to supply the entire water heating requirement.
- Category 3, and Category 4 (with the same water heating requirement as Category 2) are closed and not available to any new structure. These categories remain in effect for structures which qualified before June 1, 1993 and which continue to meet the requirements.
Schedule RE (SC)
Schedule RE is available to structures where all energy required for water heating, cooking, clothes drying and environmental space conditioning is supplied electrically, and where all energy used in the dwelling is recorded through a single meter.
- Category 1 is available for insulated structures that meet the minimum heat loss limitation specified in the schedule.
- Category 2, the lowest standard residential rate, is available for structures which meet higher energy efficiency standards including, but not limited to, insulation, storm windows and doors, weather stripping, attic ventilation and high-efficiency air conditioning systems.
Schedule ES (SC)
Schedule ES is available to structures which are certified to meet the standards of the Energy Star program of the US DOE and EPA, and where all energy used in the dwelling is recorded through a single meter. To qualify for service under this Schedule compliance with the Energy Star standards must be verified by a third party independent Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater working for an approved HERS provider. (For more detailed information on Energy Star click here.)
- Category 1 is available for insulated structures that meet Energy Star standards, irrespective of the source of energy used for water heating or environmental space conditioning.
- Category 2 is available for structures that meet Energy Star standards, and electric water heating is installed and used to supply the entire water heating requirements, except that which may be supplied by non-fossil sources such as solar.
- Category 3 is available for structures that meet Energy Star standards, and all energy required for all water heating, cooking, clothes drying, and environmental space conditioning is supplied electrically, except that which may be supplied by non-fossil sources such as solar. Electric water heating must meet all of the requirements outlined in Category 2.
Schedule RT (SC)
Schedules RT is an optional time-of-use rate which includes charges which vary according to the time of day, day of the week and season that energy is used. Prices are lower for usage at night, on weekends and other “off-peak” times. This schedule is generally not advantageous to customers using less than 1000 kwh per month.
