Cinergy Foundation Awards $10,000 In Grants To North Vernon And Jennings Counties

PLAINFIELD, Ind., February 7, 2006 — The Cinergy Foundation, the philanthropic arm of PSI Energy Inc., has awarded $10,000 in grants to North Vernon and Jennings County organizations and initiatives through the company’s community outreach program.

“We know that our business success depends on the growth and success of the communities we serve,” said Chip Orben, Cinergy’s North Vernon district manager. “That’s why we periodically meet with area leaders to find out what their needs are so that we can better direct our philanthropic giving.”

Recently Cinergy officials met with a cross-section of community leaders from the North Vernon and Jennings County areas to hear their perspectives on key community successes and issues. The meetings also provided an opportunity to update community officials on Cinergy activities and answer any questions concerning the pending merger with Duke Energy. Among the outcomes of the meetings were Cinergy Foundation grants targeted to areas of need identified in the community. The grants, funded by the Cinergy shareholders, include:

  • $2,000 for the capital campaign of the new Jennings County YMCA.
  • $3,000 to the Park Theatre to expand or develop cultural arts programs for the community as well as establish a scholarship fund for students.
  • $1,500 to the Youth Leadership Program to expand the number of youth who participate annually.
  • $2,000 for the North Vernon Education and Training Center for new programs to enhance incumbent workers’ skills.
  • $500 to the Jennings County Park Department for youth program development.
  • $500 to the Jennings County Library for the development of technology programs for seniors.
  • $500 to the North Vernon Parks Department for development of youth service programs.

Through the Cinergy Foundation, Cinergy Corp. contributes 1 percent of its pretax profits in the communities it serves in support of the arts, education, human services and community development. The company is Indiana’s largest supplier of electricity, serving more than 760,000 customers in portions of 69 of Indiana’s 92 counties.
