Cinergy Foundation Awards $10,000 In Grants To Connersville

PLAINFIELD, Ind., January 31, 2006 — The Cinergy Foundation, the philanthropic arm of PSI Energy, Inc., has awarded $10,000 in grants to Connersville organizations and initiatives through the company’s community outreach program.

“We know that our business success depends on the growth and success of the communities we serve,” said Nisa Hensley, Cinergy’s Connersville district manager. “That’s why we periodically meet with area leaders to find out what their needs are so that we can better direct our philanthropic giving.”

Recently Cinergy officials met with a cross-section of community leaders from the Connersville area to hear their perspectives on key community successes and issues. The meetings also provided an opportunity to update community officials on Cinergy activities and answer any questions concerning the pending merger with Duke Energy. Among the outcomes of the meetings were Cinergy Foundation grants targeted to areas of need identified in the community. The grants, funded by the Cinergy shareholders, include:

  • $3,500 matching grant to the community to assist with greenways, park facilities, environmental improvements, or other initiatives which add to the natural or physical attractiveness of the community.
  • $3,000 education grant to the Community Education Coalition to expand or improve the quality of education for residents of Connersville or Fayette County.
  • $2,000 youth environmental awareness partnership grant to the Community Education Coalition and a partner organization.
  • $1,500 arts and culture grant to the Artists Initiative to promote fine arts events or opportunities in Connersville and Fayette County.

Through the Cinergy Foundation, Cinergy Corp. contributes 1 percent of its pretax profits in the communities it serves in support of the arts, education, human services and community development. The company is Indiana’s largest supplier of electricity, serving more than 750,000 customers in portions of 69 of Indiana’s 92 counties.
