Cinergy Foundation Awards More Than $40,000 To Wabash Organizations

PLAINFIELD, Ind., January 23, 2006 — The Cinergy Foundation, the philanthropic arm of PSI Energy, Inc., has awarded $42,500 in grants to Wabash organizations and programs.

Included among the grants is $25,000 pledged over three years for the Honeywell Foundation’s endowment campaign.

“We know that our business success depends on the growth and success of the communities we serve,” said Jerry Banks, Cinergy’s Wabash district manager. “That’s why we periodically meet with area leaders to find out what their needs are so that we can better direct our philanthropic giving.”

Recently Cinergy officials met with a cross-section of community leaders from the Wabash area to hear their perspectives on key community successes and issues. The meetings also provided an opportunity to update community officials on Cinergy activities and answer any questions concerning the pending merger with Duke Energy. Some of the outcomes of the meetings were the following Cinergy Foundation grants, funded by Cinergy shareholders:

• $5,000 for a community group/organization to initiate a comprehensive long-range planning effort for their organization.
• $3,000 for the Wabash Economic Development Corporation to assist with its economic development activities and relocation to City Hall.
• $2,000 to the Wabash County Hospital Foundation to assist with its programs for the needy.
• $7,500 over three years for the YMCA capital fundraising campaign.

Through the Cinergy Foundation, Cinergy Corp. contributes 1 percent of its pretax profits in the communities it serves in support of the arts, education, human services and community development. The company is Indiana’s largest supplier of electricity, serving more than 750,000 customers in 69 of Indiana’s 92 counties.
