Permanent Service

By following these five simple steps Duke Energy makes it easy for you to establish permanent electric service to a new residence.

  1. Builder contacts Duke Energy by Web site, phone or fax to request permanent service, and provides the following information: home construction details (heat type, square footage, etc.) and whether temporary service needs to be removed when permanent meter is set.
  2. Duke Energy representative enters application for service and reminds builder to contact us when the site is ready for the underground construction (e.g., meter base ready, route between meter base and power source clear, grading complete and all builder underground obstacles located). The underground construction requires a minimum of 10 business days.
  3. Builder arranges for final inspections and supplies inspector with same address given to Duke Energy in the initial application.
  4. City/county performs inspection and Duke Energy obtains results. (Process of receiving the inspection may vary from county to county. All inspections must pass approval before the electrical inspection is finalized.)
  5. Duke Energy sets meter on permanent meter base once construction is complete and inspection is obtained.
